In 2013 a Danish/Syrian doctor traveled to Syria to work at the Al Rahma Hospital in Darkoush. When he returned to Denmark he gave a talk about what he had experienced while working in Syria. He told about how he had tried to help hundreds of patients every day while the bombs were raining down on the streets right outside. He told about the lack of equipment, beds and medicine and how he had to operate on a wooden desk, as the hospital didn't even have an operating table.
As soon as we heard his story we offered to collect Danish medical equipment and ship it to the Al Rhama hospital.
The container was packed with hospital beds, children's beds, incubators, operation equipment, toys for the children, two operating tables, crutches, wheel chairs, pillows, blankets and bed sheets. It was shipped from Denmark in October 2013 and arrived safely in Syria two months later.
